Gothic literature has always been enigmatic and horrifying. Maybe that is the reason for its enduring attraction and magnetism. We are pleased to present our site, which is devoted to a particular and original variant of it - American Gothic literature and to one of the brilliant American men of letters - Washington Irving. It can provide you with information concerning the Gothic trend on the whole, American and European Gothic and an analysis of two Irving's works ('Rip Van Winkle' and 'The Legend of the Sleepy Hollow') as gothic stories.
